In 1997, a Jamaican grandmother — 'Deeda' — rode her bicycle up to 80 miles, selling household goods door to door at sixty-five. Her resolve was featured in the Gleaner newspaper. Three generations later, her grand-daughter married into a Turkish family, and found that the two cultures, an ocean apart, spoke the same language: making someone feel at home the moment they arrive.
